No matter what our kids and the new generation think about us, WE ARE AWESOME !!!! OUR LIFE IS LIVING PROOF !!!!
To Those of Us Born 1930 - 1979
At the end of this email is a quote of the month by Jay Leno. If you don't read anything else, please |
read what he said.
Very well stated, Mr. Leno..
TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED THE
1930's, 40's, 50's,
60's and 70's!!
First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can and didn't get tested for diabetes.
Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered
with bright colored lead-base paints.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, locks on doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes,
we had baseball caps
not helmets on our heads.
As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, no booster seats, no seat belts, no air bags, bald tires and sometimes no brakes.
Riding in the back of a pick- up truck on a warm day was always a special treat.
We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle. (even more intersting is; WHY WAS our
immune system in tact?).
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and no one actually died from this.
We ate cupcakes made with Lard, white bread, real butter and bacon. We drank FLAV-OR- AID made with real white sugar. And, we weren't overweight. WHY?
Because we were always outside playing....that's why!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on..
No one was able to reach us all day. And, we were OKAY.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps
and then ride them down the hill,
only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem
We did not have Play stations, Nintendo's and X-boxes. There were no video games, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's,
no surround-sound or CD's,
no cell phones,
no personal computers,
no Internet and no chat rooms.
( I don't know where you were in the scheme of
things, but our kidswere born betwee 1969 and 1974
and they grew up with commodore64 and atari, donkey kong, pong, pac man
frogger and we had cable).
and I was right there with them.
WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.
We would get spankings with wooden spoons, switches, ping pong paddles, or just a bare hand and no one would call child services to report abuse.
We ate worms and mud pies
made from dirt, and
the worms did not live in us forever.
We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes..
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them.
Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team.
Those who didn't had to learn
to deal with disappointment.
Imagine that!!
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!
These generations have produced some of the best
risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever.
The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas. What can kids today do besides push buttons.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all..
If YOU are one of them, CONGRATULATIONS!
You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good.
While you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave and lucky their parents were.
Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it ?
~
The quote of the month is by
Jay Leno:
'With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?'
For the rest of us...pass this on.
McAfee has developed a SuperDAT remediation Tool to restore the svchost.exe file on affected systems.
Q: What does the SuperDAT Remediation Tool Do?
A: The tool suppresses the driver causing the false positive by applying an Extra.dat file in c:\program files\commonfiles\mcafee\engine folder. It then restores the svchost.exe by looking first in %SYSTEM_DIR%\dllcache\svchost.exe, if not present it will attempt a restore from %WINDOWS%\servicepackfiles\i386\svchost.exe, if not present it will attempt a restore from quarantine. After the tool is run, the machine needs to be rebooted.
Recommended Recovery SuperDAT Procedure
1. From a machine that has Internet access, locate and download the Recovery SuperDAT at http://download.nai.com/products/mcafee-avert/tools/SDAT5958_EM.exe and save it to portable media.
2. Take the portable media to each affected machine and run the tool. If you are not able to run the tool on the affected machine, boot in safe mode
3. Execute the Recovery SuperDAT tool
4. Reboot in normal mode
5. Use the product update to update to 5959

UPDATE #2 (12:47pm US/CDT)
McAfee is aware that a number of corporate customers have incurred a false positive error due to incorrect malware alerts. Our initial investigation indicates that the error can result in moderate to significant performance issues on systems running Windows XP Service Pack 3.
The 5958 DAT has been removed from McAfee download servers, preventing any further impact to corporate customers. McAfee teams are working with the highest priority to support impacted customers and plan to provide an update virus definition file shortly. You can view information at https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?elq_mid=2373&elq_cid=1475603&page=content&id=KB68780 (NOTE: system is currently slow) or the McAfee Community at http://community.mcafee.com/docs/DOC-1374/
We will notify you of an emergency update when available, or in 90 minutes.

Wow isn't that embarrassing? Have you ever thought you had done something, swore up and down that it was so, only to have others tell you it isn't so?
Sadly, I pointed some of our developers to my blog. They were looking for how to create service dependancies on a Windows server. Normallyl I'd do this myself but didn't have the time. I ended up having to email them instructions ... because ... as they pointed out to me, the instructions were NOT here on my blog.
Ops!
I had them in another article I had written for the office.
HOWEVER, I restate, these instructions can be found on my blog!
To create service dependancies you need to do the following:
Having trouble seeing a newly attached USB drive or memory stick?
The reason usually is that Windows renamed the drive to a letter that is already in use. This can if you have several thumb drives or external hard drives attached, and multiple mapped drives. Another reason is having multiple primary partitions created AFTER you have attached a USB device.
To fix this issue you will need to find the drive and then rename it. Here are the steps to follow outlined below:
1. Right-click on My Computer and select Manage.
2. From the Computer Management screen, select Disk Management.
In this window you should see all of your connected physical drives, their format, if they are healthy, and the drive letter.
In this instance I am going to change the drive letter of my SecureGuard USB drive.
3. Right-click on the drive in the list, and from the resulting menu select “Change Drive Letters and Paths…”
4. Click on Change so we can change the drive letter.
5. Select a new drive letter from the drop down list,
Preferably the one that you usually use for this drive.
6. Click Yes on the confirmation screen and you are done
If you have auto play enabled you will get the normal pop up dialog asking what you want to do.
Please leave a comment if this has helped you out.
